On Thursday 22 October, a classroom at JAMK University of Applied Sciences in Jyväskylä became, for one session, a window onto Argentina. Under the banner of the Argentina Wines Masterclass World Tour – Finland Edition, we guided a mixed room through nine wines, from a Patagonian Pinot Noir grown at 150 metres to a Tupungato Chardonnay planted at 1,450.

The masterclass was hosted by Professor Kimmo Aho from JAMK University, organized by Vinademy in collaboration with Wines of Argentina, the participating wineries, and with the support of the Embassy of Argentina in Finland.

The room

A table as varied as the wines

Few tasting rooms bring together so many different relationships with wine. Around the tables sat professionals from the industry, members of wine clubs, students, people from gastronomy and curious enthusiasts, each with a glass in hand and a tasting sheet to fill.

The response was outstanding. People talked about the presentation, about the quality and range of the wines, and above all about what the session opened up: Argentina as a wine producer that many of them simply hadn’t had on their map.

The talk

A journey through Argentina’s regions, altitude and grapes.

The wines

Four houses, nine labels, from whites to Malbec in four distinct voices.

A new view of Argentina

A country of more than one grape, one region and one altitude.

Argentina, as a wine producer many in the room hadn’t had in mind.

In the glass

Nine wines, three flights

Tasted one flight at a time, with Vinademy’s tasting sheet to capture aromas, structure and personal impressions.

Kiitos

Thank you, Jyväskylä

Finnish hospitality is no cliché. From the first minute the welcome was warm, and the organisation careful down to the smallest detail: the room, the glasses, the water and the notes set at every seat. It is what let everyone focus on what was in the glass.

This masterclass exists because of the people who made room for it.
